Government is unsupportive of the Agri sector.

The agricultural sector is predicted by experts to recognize growth, contributing significantly into the overall economic growth in the country. Further decreasing our biggest crisis, unemployment. However, governments poorly maintained infrastructure, and corrupted SOE’s pose a threat to this growth.

Experts have predicted serious growth in the agricultural sector which will obviously contribute a little bit more to our overall economic growth. With farmers harvesting more and increasing exports we can recognize growth in the sector. As per agricultural economist Wandile Sihlobo, South Africa recognized an export boom last year with leading crops being maize, grapes, citrus, avocados, and others. This growth could decrease unemployment especially by employing the graduated and matriculated youth.

However, the South African government hasn’t being contributing to this growth. In fact, it has challenged the growth with its poorly maintained infrastructure and load shedding. Instead of farmers investing their extra profits to increasing production capacity by increasing capital, they are forced to buy generators to keep production going when its load shedding time. Where is the minister of agriculture and why isn’t there, a plan to solve this problem? Is it not logic for government to recognize this growth and create a business-friendly environment to encourage this growth?
